Tianjin, China – Yesterday, from a warehouse owned by Tianjin Dongjiang Port Rui Hai International Logistics Co., two massive explosions shocked the Chinese port city of Tianjin. The site is known for storing and transporting hazardous goods and chemicals including sodium cyanide, toluene diisocyanate and calcium carbide.

Two explosions ripped through the port, raining fire onto the city of 13 million. The second explosion, more powerful than the first, was equivalent to 21 metric tons of TNT or a magnitude-2.9 earthquake. Presently, 50 have been confirmed dead with more than 500 people hospitalized, 71 of which are in critical condition.

Firefighting efforts have been suspended due to a lack of information on the precise nature of the dangerous goods that caused the two blasts, and the company’s executives have been taken into custody where they are being held responsible for the destruction.
